I have a Sony DCR HC40 video cam. It is pretty nice and handy camera that I use a lot to make films of my kids. However, after 3 years of usage, I still didn't find a way to download the clips to computer (so that I could send them to family by email or upload to YouTube).

Please, recommend me what cable should I buy and what software (if any) is needed to download it to my laptop.

I am not sure which cable I should buy. Attached in the picture is the port of my laptop, the only one different from USB port. Please, help me to find out the quick solution.

If your computer has pci-card (in this case it has the special port - on the right of your picture) you should by only FireWire 400 IEEE 1394 6-pin/4-pin Cable  (SONY compatible).

In case your computer hasn't pci-card, you should by this cable with FireWire PCI card.

Thanks!

Why don't you register and tell few words about yourself? I'd like to send you a message, but I can't do it, since you are anounymous user.

One more question: are you sure I need exactly this cable? will it fit to my laptop's port that I show in the picture?

The problem is that I have a laptop comp. I can't insert PCI card into it. Can you help me to figure out if the cable will fit the port on the picture?

Thanks for your help!
